Make the Most of your Day of Viewing Homes for Sale in Scottsdale
When you’re about to venture about looking at homes for sale in Scottsdale you and your realtor picked out, the first thing you need to do is get a good night’s rest. It will be a long day, especially if you have a lot of homes lined up to look at.
Be sure you wear comfortable clothing and shoes…you will be in and out of the car walking around Scottsdale properties all day. If you’re uncomfortable, you will focus on your discomfort rather than your potential new home.
A few essentials you need to take with you include:
- A small camera, preferably digital so you can easily review pictures of each of the homes for sale in Scottsdale
- In case there’s no convenient options to get something to eat, take some nutritious snacks so you’re not hungry
- Bottle(s) of water
- A notepad for taking notes on important points you may forget otherwise
Leave heavy purses and/or briefcases and other valuables at home. You will most likely be riding in the realtor’s car so it’s best to only take essentials with you.
Next, if you’ll have not done so already, go over your “needs and wants” list with your Scottsdale realtor and eliminate any homes that are completely unsuitable for you. And if you see other homes for sale in Scottsdale that interest you, let your realtor know. It’s possible to get an immediate showing or your Scottsdale realtor can easily get you in to see other homes at another time.
As far as kids, it’s best to leave them with a sitter or a friend. Children will be a distraction as they’ll soon be exhausted, bored and wishing they were somewhere else. Your attention will no doubt be diverted and you may overlook important features of the home you’ll be seeing.
If they’re older and truly interested in looking at Scottsdale properties, take them along but I advise waiting until you have narrowed your list to two or three before taking young children along to look at homes for sale in Scottsdale.
Other things you should NOT do when touring homes for sale in Scottsdale:
- Bring the dog or other pet(s) – hard to believe, but people actually do
- Wear heavy perfume – people selling the home may be allergic
- Cram too many homes into one day – after a half dozen or so, they all start looking the same
Once on the road, be sure to write down where you’re going and how to get there so you can go drive through the neighborhood yourself later on (but don’t go back to the house on your own).
After looking at a home, help your Scottsdale realtor by telling them what you like and what you don’t like about each house. It’s awfully frustrating for a buyer to say they like every house they see but still don’t find the one they want. If you see a house you like but are not sure it’s the one, tell your realtor anyway. You will want to go back there after looking at more homes; plus it will give your realtor some good insights into what you like in a home.
At the end of the day, take some time with your Scottsdale realtor to sort the houses you toured into two lists – “maybes” and “definitely not’s”.
And of course, if you were lucky enough to find your dream home during the day, take some time to talk it over with your family and decide on your offering price. Then sit down with your Scottsdale realtor to get it all in writing.
